Dennis and Abby – Kyoto Grand Hotel Los Angeles Wedding Photography

I have fallen in love with downtown LA. This wedding was held at the Kyoto Grand Hotel and Gardens, which truly brings class and convenience on the wedding day.  Once I got used to where the elevators were, this day was a breeze.  It was hard to take a bad picture of these two.  Their wedding was beautiful and I hope my photography does it justice.  If you enjoyed these photos, please leave a comment in the comment box below.

Hey blog reader – are we friends on facebook?  Facebook is the place I am currently posting images to first, so to get the inside track, either friend me or like me (I don’ t like the term “liking”, but anyway…).  Ok, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

I had a tough time narrowing it down, but here are my favorites.

Dennis and Abby agreed to see each other before their ceremony, and it was a touching event.

Note to photographers: This was my first wedding using the lightweight but impressively sharp Canon 85mm F/1.8.  The first one I got was a dud, but the replacement is working very well.  These are mostly shot at F/2.

We went to the Disney Concert Hall to take some wedding portraits.  Even in the worst light of the day, I love all the shots we got there.

I gotta say I LOVE these umbrellas!  The hotel has a Japanese theme, and these somehow fit in very well.

Dennis’s sister sang a powerful rendition of  “At Last” by Etta James.  What a diva!

Dennis had a chance to show off his skills at “Slappin’ da bass’.  He was really good!

Abby changed near the end of the reception into something more comfortable.

Note to photographers: I don’t have a dedicated macro lens.  I get all my ring shots with a 50mm F1.4 with a 25mm extension tube ($80).  It’s tough to use, but the results are amazing.  I do hope to get a dedicated macro lens.  Any suggestions?? (please respond in the comments below)

Tiffanie and Mark – Napa Wine Country

Tiffanie and Mark hosted a beautiful wedding in Napa a few weeks ago.  Both the ceremony and reception were held at the V. Sattui Winery and I was blown away by their castle-like architecture and excellent staff.  Every detail was polished and these two were both relaxed and ready for this occasion.  Tiffanie and Mark, I am so grateful that I got to be a part of your big day, and I wish you both all the best in your new life together.  It was one of our best 4th of July weekends yet!

In case anyone asks, this is NOT EVA LONGORIA!  Quite the resemblance, wouldn’t you say?

Jason and Heather – Temecula Wine Country

We have a mini-napa here in So-Cal.  It’s right outside the city limits of Temecula and it is just a hop, skip, and a jump away.  Heather and Jason contracted us about their wedding just a few short weeks ago, and I can’t believe it has come and gone so quickly.  Heather and Jason had a beautiful ceremony and reception at the Wiens Family Cellars.

***Note to brides: Heather did one thing especially well to help her photography go smoothly: deciding ahead of time who she needed family portraits of and tying up a list for me (with first names). This way, I was able to check off as I got them.  This list made it possible for us to squeeze in many more than I usually am able to when deciding on the fly.  It took out the awkward decision making you have to do as to whether Uncle Brandon needs to be in the next shot or not.  🙂

This is also a sneak peek at our new logo – which will be on EVERYTHING we show in the near future.  The blog “stamp” seems like a good place to do a trial run, so please forgive the disconnect between the logo above and the logo in this post.

The dress was stunning – the wind made this shot tricky!

These barrel rooms are so cool.

Calvin and Shannon – Back Bay Newport Beach

I hope you are having a wonderful memorial day.  I hope we all take a few minutes today away from the the beach and the BBQ to remember our fallen heroes, and pray for the heroes currently serving all over the world.  Then go enjoy the freedom they fight to protect!

I was part of a photo shoot a few months ago with a group of photographers in Orange County, hosted by Lauren Hillary.  This shoot was focused around posing techniques, and we shot in the Newport Back Bay.  Many thanks to our models, Calvin and Shannon. Here are a few of my favorites…

I love this little guy…
