Dennis and Abby – Kyoto Grand Hotel Los Angeles Wedding Photography

I have fallen in love with downtown LA. This wedding was held at the Kyoto Grand Hotel and Gardens, which truly brings class and convenience on the wedding day.  Once I got used to where the elevators were, this day was a breeze.  It was hard to take a bad picture of these two.  Their wedding was beautiful and I hope my photography does it justice.  If you enjoyed these photos, please leave a comment in the comment box below.

Hey blog reader – are we friends on facebook?  Facebook is the place I am currently posting images to first, so to get the inside track, either friend me or like me (I don’ t like the term “liking”, but anyway…).  Ok, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Dennis and Abby agreed to see each other before their ceremony, and it was a touching event.

Note to photographers: This was my first wedding using the lightweight but impressively sharp Canon 85mm F/1.8.  The first one I got was a dud, but the replacement is working very well.  These are mostly shot at F/2.

We went to the Disney Concert Hall to take some wedding portraits.  Even in the worst light of the day, I love all the shots we got there.

I gotta say I LOVE these umbrellas!  The hotel has a Japanese theme, and these somehow fit in very well.

I didn’t have a stream running through my wedding ceremony!

Dennis’s sister sang a powerful rendition of  “At Last” by Etta James.  What a diva!

Dennis had a chance to show off his skills at “Slappin’ da bass’.  He was really good!

Abby changed near the end of the reception into something more comfortable.

Note to photographers: I don’t have a dedicated macro lens.  I get all my ring shots with a 50mm F1.4 with a 25mm extension tube ($80).  It’s tough to use, but the results are amazing.  I do hope to get a dedicated macro lens.  Any suggestions?? (please respond in the comments below)

Calvin and Shannon – Back Bay Newport Beach

I hope you are having a wonderful memorial day.  I hope we all take a few minutes today away from the the beach and the BBQ to remember our fallen heroes, and pray for the heroes currently serving all over the world.  Then go enjoy the freedom they fight to protect!

I was part of a photo shoot a few months ago with a group of photographers in Orange County, hosted by Lauren Hillary.  This shoot was focused around posing techniques, and we shot in the Newport Back Bay.  Many thanks to our models, Calvin and Shannon. Here are a few of my favorites…

I love this little guy…

Montage Resort, Laguna Beach Wedding Fashion Shoot

Last week, I had the privilege of participating in the “7 Workshop” offered by the legendary Mike Colon to better my craft and be a part of this amazing wedding fashion shoot at the Montage in Laguna Beach.  A few years ago when I was just getting serious about wedding photography, I took an evening workshop from Mike, Dane Sanders, and Jessica Claire, and I was hooked.  I saw the kind of work they were creating, their passion and skill, and I made a decision to always push the creative envelope, and invest in learning as much as possible.  (cue “the more you know” jingle…)

The day was rainy, so the Montage offered us their presidential suite to shoot in.  It was huge and classy without being over-the-top, and it offered an amazing view of the beach below.  We also had these amazing models, Jessica and Brian.  You’d think they were really in love!  It was hard to narrow it down, but here are my favorites.  Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Jessica just glows like this all the time!

A note to photographers: I highly recommend the “Seven Workshop” by Mike Colon.  There is no more reputable wedding photographer than Mike Colon, and he will answer any and all questions you may have.  The workshops are limited to 7 people, so you won’t be lost in the crowd, and the cost is easily made up by simply following his advice on pricing and booking more.  Feel free to email me with any questions.

Valentine’s Day Engagement Shoot – Dennis and Abby (with FUSION)

When we looked at our calendars for a day that would work for Dennis and Abby, the only day over the entire month that was “available” was Valentine’s day.  This suddenly seemed uber-romantic so I thought I would try out this “fusion” thing to spice things up.  For those who don’t know, my understanding of “fusion” is to mix photos and video.  But his not just any video, this is video that plays well with photos next to, video taken with a photographer’s eye.  With the trusty 5D Mark II in hand, after hours of fighting the crowds to get to Laguna Beach, this is what we created:
