Nancy and Iyad – Engaged!

It’s rare to see two people who look SO good together like these two do. We shot for about half an hour right at sunset at the Diamond Bar Center in Diamond Bar, and ended up with some of my favorite engagement photos ever. I grew up in Diamond Bar, but coming back for this engagement photo session gave me a whole new set of eyes to see it with. I’ve known Nancy since high school, but I hardly recognized her when we met up for this shoot! She is a knock-your-socks-off hottie now and Iyad is one lucky guy to be paired up with her. He certainly could not wipe the boyish grin off his face – enjoy!

After the shoot, we went back to her parents’ house and they had a rockin’ “engagement blessing” party. This thing rivaled most weddings! It’s a Jordanian tradition that was a pleasure to attend.

The food was nothing to complain about, either!

Tiffanie and Mark – Napa Valley Engagement Session

Tiffanie and Mark’s Napa wedding was one for the books. We did this session the day before their wedding at their hotel, in under an hour. Enjoy!

We headed out to a 4th of July BBQ and fireworks show at a local winery and had a blast. Pun intended.

Engagement Photography – Darin and Donna

Here is a spunky couple I shot recently in Marina Del Rey and Venice Beach. They are such a perfect pair, and they were chuckling to each other the whole time. Their wedding is in September and I’m looking forward to it!

Time for something new. I took Christina and Brian’s engagement photos last week in Corona Del Mar. I love the colorful downtown and of course the beach at sunset ain’t bad either. Here are some engagement tips with visual aids as well .

10 Secrets to a happy engagement…

1.) Learn to see eye to eye.

2.) Kiss in such a way you get shivers down your spine.

3.) Learn to laugh at yourselves.

4.) Take breaks often from wedding planning.

5.) Try to see the world through each other’s eyes.

6.) When you hit a wall, look to each other.

7.) Don’t be afraid of the thorns in life. They can make great decoration!

8.) Lift each other up.

9.) Be a refuge for each other.

10) Keep your eyes on the same goal.

You guys did great! This was one of my favorite ever.

Calvin and Shannon – Back Bay Newport Beach

I hope you are having a wonderful memorial day. I hope we all take a few minutes today away from the the beach and the BBQ to remember our fallen heroes, and pray for the heroes currently serving all over the world. Then go enjoy the freedom they fight to protect!

I was part of a photo shoot a few months ago with a group of photographers in Orange County, hosted by Lauren Hillary. This shoot was focused around posing techniques, and we shot in the Newport Back Bay. Many thanks to our models, Calvin and Shannon. Here are a few of my favorites…

Adam and Heather, Newport Beach Engagement Photography

Adam and Heather a really sweet couple. These two brought their bikes along for this shoot at Crystal Cove State park. It was an overcast day, but that didn’t stop us from getting some great shots. I love how each couple’s personalities come out uniquely in each of my engagement shoots. This is such a fun way to get some practice being in front of the camera before the wedding, and these are photos in “normal” clothes that you put up in your house to mix in with the wedding photos to come. Here are a few of my favorites:

Katrina and Bruce – Seal Beach Engagement Photography

Steven and Brittney – Orange County Engagement Photography

This was the first of the shoots from last week’s engagement shoot marathon. I always try to get these on the blog/facebook as quick as possible. We shot at Chapman University, which is really close to the Orange Circle (which I love shooting in), but offers a very different surroundings, but we headed to the circle at the end of the shoow. I’ll start off with my 2 favorites:

Note to Photographers: This entire shoot was edited using Adobe Lightroom 3 Beta. It is much nimbler and the noise reduction is amazing! OK back to the photos…

Crystal and Steven’s Engagement Session – Orange County Wedding Photographer

We clicked the first time we met. I think we spent 2 hours just chatting at the first appointment, and the same amount of time with them over Pho after this photo shoot. I know this is going to be a really fun wedding. This couple reminds me of all the reasons I got into this business in the first place.

We decided to shoot at all-new locations and try out some new techniques. Let us know what you think!

This is behind a random elementary school in Orange. We went location scouting after church and I’m glad we did!

Valentine’s Day Engagement Shoot – Dennis and Abby (with FUSION)

When we looked at our calendars for a day that would work for Dennis and Abby, the only day over the entire month that was “available” was Valentine’s day. This suddenly seemed uber-romantic so I thought I would try out this “fusion” thing to spice things up. For those who don’t know, my understanding of “fusion” is to mix photos and video. But his not just any video, this is video that plays well with photos next to, video taken with a photographer’s eye. With the trusty 5D Mark II in hand, after hours of fighting the crowds to get to Laguna Beach, this is what we created:

He brought his guitar too. I love props!
